Double Exposures

I’ve found a new appreciation for double exposures. Most of these can be done in camera and that’s what most photographers choose to do. I like creating it in camera as well as it is relatively easy to do so after a bit of practice.

But with a bit of vision and patience, double exposures can be truly stunning. I knew I wanted a long exposure panorama of the New York City skyline double exposed on Tiff and Scott’s faces. I also didn’t want to go the typical double exposure look where the background is only visible within the outlines of the subjects. While something like this is cool as heck also, I wanted to showcase the entire skyline, not just a part of it. And creating the double exposure in camera wouldn’t allow me to do that. So with a bit of messing around in photoshop, I was able to create this.

Background is a long exposure 10 image panorama of the skyline, and the foreground is just a tight shot of Tiff and Scott with a speedlite right behind their heads to give that silhouette look.
